We provide thorough preparation and, where possible, chaperoned international flights to selected destinations in Europe, ensuring students feel supported, confident and cared for from the moment they leave Australia.
Comprehensive Pre-Departure Preparation
Before students even arrive at the airport, we make sure they are fully prepared for the journey ahead.
Our comprehensive pre-departure briefing walks students through every stage of international travel, from check-in to stopovers and arrival procedures. We recognise that a long-haul flight can feel daunting, but also exciting. When students know what to expect, that nervous energy often turns into confidence.
Many students tell us that completing the journey independently or as part of a group gives them a real sense of achievement. It’s often their first big step towards independence, and a powerful introduction to their exchange experience.
Support at the Departure Airport
Where possible, a Students of the World team member is present at the departure airport, usually Sydney or Melbourne.
Our role is to help with:
- Check-in and travel logistics
- Answering last-minute questions
- Supporting emotions and goodbyes
We know this moment can be emotional for both students and parents. Having a familiar, experienced face at the airport helps everyone feel reassured and supported.
Travelling Together, Not Alone
Most students travel in groups, meaning they are rarely on their own during the journey. This creates a sense of comfort, shared excitement and mutual support right from the start.
In cases where a student travels independently, we ensure they are thoroughly prepared with a clear, step-by-step travel plan. They know exactly what to do, where to go and who to contact at every stage of the journey.
Chaperoned International Flights
On selected international flights from Australia, a Students of the World team member travels with the students.
Our chaperones:
- Board the flight with the students
- Assist during stopovers and transfers
- Provide reassurance and guidance throughout the journey
This added level of care ensures students feel supported during long-haul travel and complex connections, particularly when navigating busy international airports.
A Warm Welcome Overseas
Upon arrival, students are met at the destination airport by our trusted international partners. From there, they are guided to their next destination, whether that is an orientation program or directly to their host family.
This seamless handover ensures students are never left feeling lost or uncertain and allows them to settle into their new environment with confidence.
