Who can apply?

Australian high school students 14 to 17 years of age, who have:

Have submitted an Expression of Interest for a Trimester, Semester or Year program (shorter programs not eligible)
Have maintained a B grade average at school

Scholarship categories:

Language Scholarships – For students who have studied the language of their chosen destination for at least 2 years and can provide proof of that study.
Non-Language Scholarships – No prior language study required, just a commitment to learning the basics of the language before you depart and while on exchange.

When to apply

Applications for a Students of the World Scholarship are open at the following times:

Apply during the year for programs departing August the following year.

For example, apply in 2026 for departures from August 2027 onwards.

Hosting rebates

Host an exchange student in your home before, after or during your exchange program and get a rebate!

Welcoming an exchange student into your home is a rewarding opportunity that enriches your family’s life. Whether your family hosts before you embark on your exchange journey, during or after your return, we offer a hosting rebate that reduces your program fee to thank you.

Conditions apply, and the rebate amount will vary depending on the hosting length up to a maximum of 20% of the cost of the outbound program fee.

How do I apply for a student exchange program?

Click on the button below and fill out the online enquiry form.
After receiving your Expression of Interest form, we’ll schedule a phone call or in-person meeting with you and your parent/guardian. One of our friendly and experienced team members will conduct the meeting, so there’s no need to be nervous!
Following the interview, we will ask you to complete an online application form. We will then review it and may contact you for additional information if necessary.
When you have been accepted, we will notify you and our overseas partner will start looking for a suitable host family and school for you. We will set up a payment plan for you, and full payment must be made 60 days before departure.
Prior to departure one of our team members will conduct a pre departure briefing with you and your parent/guardian and give you the opportunity to ask any last-minute questions.

What does a student exchange program cost?

The cost of student exchange programs varies depending on the location, duration of stay, and time of year.

You will find detailed information under each destination, including prices, inclusions and exclusions.

We believe that every student should have the opportunity to go on exchange, and to help make this possible, we offer payment plans that spread the payments into manageable instalments.
